Around Our Clocks: 11:00 AM

The "Around Our Clocks" blog circle continues and today we are all sharing a glimpse at what the 11 o'clock hour looks like. I choose to documented the kids coloring eggs in preparation for Easter. This year in addition to a Classic Egg Dye kit one of the kids also tried the Tie Dye one. It was messy but fun. At one point one of the kids said to me, "What? We're being creative!" Ha! Alrighty then...

Magic. It's what happens when we live our lives to the fullest. It's where we play with our kids and teach them what we know. Sometimes it happens out on an adventure and often times it happens between the walls of our homes. It's everything that Baby Jillian's 4 Month photo session was and everything their family is. Most of all, it is love.

John & Amanda, thank you for allowing me to capture the magic of childhood and unconditional love of your beautiful family once again. Until next time... xo

Around Our Clocks: 9:00 AM

My kids are super into cooking right now so documenting them making pancakes one morning during Spring Break for March's 9 o'clock edition of our monthly Around Our Clocks project was a lot of fun!

More from this project...

Jillian | Fort Collins Newborn Photographer

It's no secret that I love photographing newborns. My own kids are now 13, 10, and 8 and man alive do I miss having three kids under 5 at home so I just had to share this session from December before Jillan's 4 month session this weekend.

I also want to share this session because it represents the type of work I want to do a lot more of this year. When Amanda shared with me that Joshua was going to big a brother and asked to schedule a newborn session with me, she made it clear a perfectly posed picture wasn't her top priority. Instead, she asked if she could give me the creative freedom to shoot how I want. And as a result, I think we got a lot of shots that are so much more than perfect. They are real. A perfect representation of this beautiful family. Years from now I know these photos will be even more special because we took these photos at home they lived in when they brought baby Jillian home.

To John & Amanda, thank you for inviting me into your sweet little world and trusting me to do what I do. It is a true pleasure to continue documenting the love of your beautiful, growing family. Until next time... xo

Chatbooks

The best camera is the one that's with you. And sometimes, that's the camera on your mobile phone. We are living in the age of opportunity when it comes to being able to share our mobile pictures. With Instagram, Facebook, and other social media photo sharing sites it’s easier than ever to share your favorite photos with anybody, at any time. But then what? I shared this article about how The Most Photographed Generation Will Have No Photographs In 10 Years a few weeks ago on my Facebook, and holy smokes does this make me sad. So today I'm going to tell you what I do with the pictures I take on my iPhone in hopes that it offers you another simple, cost effective way to get your family pictures printed: Chatbooks

Last summer I decided it was time to try out this fantastic company that I had heard so much about. What drew me in what the amount of effort that was going to be required of me. As in, I didn't want to put forth any effort. I wanted someone to do it for me. And Chatbooks did just that. With a few clicks of a button I was able to download the Chatbooks app to my iPhone, sign up, link to my Instagram account to Chatbooks, and set up a subscription to a Chatbooks Photo Book Series. About a week later, my books arrived. What I'm telling you is that you can automatically print your Instagram, Facebook, or Camera Roll Favorites into beautiful 6x6' photo books with very little effort! How cool is that!? And the best part? Chatbooks prints and sends me a new volume for every 60 photos to my Instagram. The books are $8 each for softcover and an extra $5 to upgrade to hardcover (all mine are softcover) and the shipping is free. I tell ya, it's like Christmas around here when a new one arrives in the mail! Sometimes the kids even take a little tangle over who gets to look at it first. And the kids' friends? Let me tell you a little story. One day last summer I found my living room filled with 12 year old boys - my son and his friends. My newly printed Chatbooks were also in the living room and they caught the boys' attention and soon every boy had a different volume in their hand and were having the best time looking at these little books. I would have taken a photo right then and there if it wouldn't have been weird! The boys had a great time learning a bit about their friend's life before he moved to Fort Collins and afterwards one of the boys called out to me in the kitchen and said, "Mrs. Berg, these books are seriously really cool." So there you have it. 12 year old boys think Chatbooks are seriously really cool and 12 year boys know cool, right? :)

I feel like I should add a few tips in here but really, there's not much to it. You can subscribe to a Photo Book Series like I do or you can make a Custom Photo Book that you can fill with 366 pictures. Actually, I'm in the process of putting all of my childhood photos into one of those. Also super easy. If you subscribe to a series Chatbooks will send you an email when you've reached 60 photos and a new volume is about to be printed. At this point you have 3 days to remove any photos you don't want included in that volume, edit any text, and change the cover photo. The only one of those that I do is to change the cover photo - switching the automated image out for my personal favorite image from that particular volume. And guess what y’all — I have an amazing offer for every single person reading this right now. You can get your own free Instagram Series photo book. Yep, that’s right. Simply use the code And guess what y’all — I have an amazing offer for every single person reading this right now. Where To Print Your Family Pictures | Fort Coll

Today I'm going to share with you my local photo lab recommendation: Costco.  I'm a busy mom too and although I recommend an online photo lab to the families that I photograph, I know that sometimes there just isn't time to wait for an online photo lab to mail photos to you, especially in the event of a pending school project. I also know that Costco is a very affordable option to get all those photos you took during your last family vacation off your hard print and printed for your family to enjoy. I've printed my own family's photos at our local Costco, and using my one tip below I've had great results.

Tip: Set AutoCorrect To Off

In the checkout screen, you will see a box called Print Options. In here, I prefer to set AutoCorrect to off. (I also recommend my clients since I've already individually edited their family photos.) If you don't edit you photos and are wondering if you should still set AutoCorrect to Off, you might want to try printing the same photo with and without it set to Off and see what you like best. I find that AutoCorrect means darken and saturate the photo so if you don't want to do a text print I'd choose Off.

AutoCorrect: Off

AutoCorrect: Off

I hope this helps you get your family's pictures off your hard drive and printed! I've only printed 4x6 to 11x14 photos at Costco and so I can't comment on the quality of the other products. Also, I prefer Luster over Glossy because fingerprints are less visible on Luster, but that's really a personal choice. Next week I'll share my recommendation for printing your iPhone and Instagram pictures so be sure to stop back!

A Snowy Mountain Adventure

Happy first day of spring! The kids went back to school today after a fun Spring Break filled with shooting, four-wheeling, horseback riding, downhill skiing, swimming (in an outdoor pool), trampoline park, and slip 'n slide. On the day we went muddin', we also went thru a lot of snow and up top Bakers Burn the kids found a knee high patch of snow. Needless to say, the ride down was a lot colder with wet jeans and gloves after a snowball fight!

We're Go In Muddin

The story goes that there was a forest fire and Mont's grandpa took coffee to the firefighters up there. That's how it got it's names, Coffee Ridge, or Bakers Burn. It's about a 30 minute ride up and was the kids first time four-wheeling in the hills. I mean they've all been on four-wheelers before but this is the first time they've gotten to help load up all the machines and actually go up the hill. A Spring Break adventure to remember!

Thank you for visiting and if you're local I hope you're enjoying your Spring Break. Photography friends, these were all taken with the Nikon D810 and 35mm lens, which was perfect for me to hold on to while four-wheeling and still be take pictures.

3 Reasons Celebrate Sessions Rock

To be honest, I didn't know if it was possible. After all, I state right on my website that I believe that the best moments in life are unscripted. Yet I continued because I wanted to see if I could bring my love for unposed photographs that are full of live and laughter right into the studio. So I set out to see if I could find a way to offer parents the option to document their children's milestones throughout the year outside of their yearly family lifestyle session. Maybe your little one is about to loose their front teeth and you want to capture that smile with those cute little baby teeth one last time. Or maybe you want to document a birthday. Whatever the milestone, these Limited Edited Celebrate Sessions, are sure to be a hit with your kiddo!

REASON 01

BALLOONS

Kids love balloons! Balloons are bright and colorful and fun to play with. And having your picture taken is even more fun when you're having fun, right? You can toss 'em up in the air or sit on one and try to pop it. You can even tell me what color of balloon you want. And I pinky swear I will only let your kid take home has many balloons as he or she can carry without your help!

Confetti

I can't promise you won't find a little confetti in your washing machine next time you do laundry but I will say I haven't met a kid who doesn't like confetti! I mean, it involves making a mess and kids love messes!

REASON 03

FUN

What would you say if I told you I shoot all of these photos in less than 30 minutes? It's true, I did! And what would you told you we have fun too? Like laugh out loud "What are we doing next?" fun? Because that's what this cute little 3 year old said to me during her photo shoot yesterday! The proof is in the pudding, folks! :)

Around Our Clocks: 10:00 AM

I am so excited to be sharing with this wonderful group of documentary photographers again. This month we are sharing a peek into our lives at the 10 o'clock hour. At that time of day my kids are off to school and I'm working, so I decided to share a peek into my work day. On this day I left Fort Collins shortly after my kids left for school and drove up to Cheyenne, Wyoming to photograph two day old baby Jillian. I hadn't been to the Labor and Delivery unit at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center since my youngest was born in January of 2009 so I was pretty excited to go and take hospital newborn portraits of this sweet little girl. Here's a look at my 10 o'clock hour for the month of December...

Around Our Clocks: 3:00 PM

It's sometime during the 3 o'clock hour during the month of November and I'm picking up my camera to document our day. I'm excited to be joining several documentary photographers in a project called Around Our Clocks and each month we will be photographically documenting what our lives look during a different hour. Here's a look at our 3 o'clock hour for the month of November...
